You do not need to register with the Practice, neither do you?need to be a registered patient of the Practice.?


Do you have a lump or bump in your mouth or on your lips that worries you?

Do you have a white or red patch in your mouth or on your lips that won?t go away?

Do you have an ulcer in your mouth or on your lips that won?t go away?


King Street Dental Practice is offering a FREE drop in clinic for anyone to have any lumps, bumps red or white patches, ulcers to be checked.?The examinations will be carried out by Mr Mike Bater, Consultant Head & Neck Cancer Surgeon (Consultant at Basingstoke Hospital; Royal County County Hospital, Guildford; Hampshire Clinic, Basing; Clare Park, Crondall).?Mr Bater has offered his time & expertise free of charge.

Cancer can occur in the mouth just as it can occur in other parts of the body such as the lungs, the breasts, the prostate.?Last year in the UK more than 7000 people were diagnosed with mouth cancer. The disease has increased by a third in the last decade.?Each year in the UK mouth cancer claims the lives of more than 2000 people. This is more than cervical cancer & testicular cancer combined; more lives than road traffic accidents.

We cannot stress enough the importance of early detection.?The earlier the detection and diagnosis of mouth cancer the easier it is to treat. This will result in fewer lives being lost.
Risk factors include
  • Tobacco ? smoking or chewing, especially chewing
  • Alcohol
  • HPV (human papilloma virus)
  • Poor diet

The number of mouth cancers due to HPV has dramatically increased in the last decade.

Signs & symptoms you MUST NOT ignore:
  • Ulcers that do not heal in three weeks
  • Red or white patches that cannot be rubbed away
  • Unusual lumps & swellings in the mouth or in the head and neck area

Mouth Cancer Action Month is a charity campaign which aims to raise the awareness of mouth cancer aiming to make a difference by early detection and prevention -?Mouth Cancer Action Month runs from 01st November to 30th November 2017.

NB: There is limited parking on site, but there are also public car parks nearby.
